Update for 2016

Hello all! I hope you are all doing well! I just wanted to do a quick check-in before the year is out. My dad is doing excellent! He received his last labs about a week ago and all results remain stable and normal. His prostate remains in a range from 9-11 (which is stable enough for an okay on Gerson). He feels really good and looks really good as well. I just wanted to let you all know that this next year I wish you love, abundance, happiness and many, many smiles. Thank you so much for following our path as an alternative. I will keep you updated as we progress. Happy New Year! xoxo

Note to Gerson Caretakers

Hello all! We have successfully completed 8 months of Gerson Therapy! YAY! Today I decided to sound off for all of the Gerson Caretakers out there (and for those of you considering embarking on Gerson Therapy). Three words: IT IS HARD. I cannot stress how very difficult it is to keep up with the demands of the therapy. My dad requires 10 juices, 3 special meals, 3 enemas, and 60+ supplements per day. EVERY DAY. I wake up at 6 AM everyday to start the therapy and we end at 7 PM Monday through Sunday. Yes, no weekends off. And that doesn’t count the amount of time spent at doctors appointments, locating supplements, and organic grocery shopping. So when people say to me, “So, how does it feel to not be working?” I want to vomit and retort, “How does it feel to only work your crappy 40 hours a week?” Yes, it makes me angry. But unless you are knee deep in it, there is no possible way you could understand. It is stressful, tiring, and emotional. But at the end of the day it is SO WELL WORTH IT! And this last fact is what keeps me going every day. For those of you that want to embark on this journey alone, I am humbled. And I admire you. Sometimes it seems like an impossible task and for you to do it alone, well, it just seems that much more so. I truly suggest you find help. At home there are a couple of us. My mom, who has been working her whole entire life at a meat packing plant thinks this is way more difficult. (!) We both get tired, irritable, and highly emotional. It is hard. Thank goodness for the days that we receive good news from dad’s lab reports. He has another one soon. We will keep you posted!

6 Month Labs/Examenes de 6 meses

Hello Everyone! I wanted to give you an update on my dad’s 6 month labs. We are SO excited! His labs came back EXCELLENT. As you all remember my dad was diagnosed with prostate and kidney cancer in June of 2012. After 6 months of therapy, his kidneys are at optimal function, his cholesterol and glycemia are finally down to normal levels. It took a while, but they are down. Yippee! AND his PSA is also down a couple of points. Slow and steady. He feels well and is happy with the results.

A celebrar! 🙂

4 Month Update/Progreso de 4 meses

IMG_1386Update: Month 4

I have taken some time to write about my dad’s progress, because we were going through a gloomy period. When all is said and done the disease and the diet itself is definitely challenging at times. We see cancer and death everywhere and it is very difficult to focus on the present. Having said that, the blues are an expected part of Gerson Therapy. It is our job to try and keep my dad’s mind occupied with happy, healthy thoughts. TODAY he’s definitely doing better now and we are working on a very positive future.

This months lab weren’t all too happy. Cholesterol, glucose and PSA reading went up and his blood pressure was at an all time high. The doctor in Mexico wasn’t concerned with his cholesterol and glucose level because they border on the high normal range and, as was explained before, it is natural for these readings to go up because the body is detoxing. He wasn’t all too concerned about his PSA reading either telling us that PSA readings are not all that “stable” and will read erratic at times. It is much better to consider an average. We will keep monitoring it. Other than the sadness, my dad has no other physical abnormality or pain, which leads him to be unconcerned about the PSA reading. However, his cause for alarm was that his blood pressure is not going down. Considering the diet, most people’s blood pressure drop in a matter of days or weeks. My dad has been on Gerson Therapy for almost 6 months and his blood pressure is not easing up. He has advised us to see if there might be a secondary cause. We are scheduled to go to both a cardiologist and nefrologist at the end of this month (January) and mid February. We will let you know how he progresses.

Progreso: Mes 4

Chillin’ like a Villain…

Four months on Gerson Therapy. Wow… My dad is doing great, but his mood lately has turned a little sad. He is moody and is often pensive. He’s not his ol’ cheerful self, but battling with strong emotions. He’s blue. Probably angry, bored, and a range of other emotions. We were told at the clinic, that this was to be expected. My dad is also at the age (almost 70) where his thoughts begin to wander into the past and into the future. Right now he watches TV. This is him in his favorite comfy chair just chillin’ like a villain.

3 Month Results/Resultados de 3 meses

3 Month Results:

Just got my dad’s lab results. Doing GREAT! Sodium is down and glucose is near normal. Renal function is optimal aside from the one healing reaction my dad remains his ol’ cheery self. Perfect!

Perfecto!

The man and his potato/El Hombre y su papa

My dad has decided to grow his beard until he cures himself of cancer. I think it looks really good! He tells me that he has never grown it before. I guess there is always a first time! He can always hide some bits of potato in there for later!

Yummy!

Healing Reaction II/Reacción Curativa II

This past week, my dad has been suffering through another Healing Reaction. This one, not as severe as the first, took him out for about 3 days. He is now taking it easy and, although still in pain, has managed to keep up his spirits. Meanwhile, we are loving, hugging and kissing all up on him! Muaaaaa!

Muaaaaa!

6 Week Results/Resultados de 6 Semanas

This past week my dad got his 6 week labs. He did GREAT! There were a couple of indicators that were a little over range: sodium and glucose. The doctor said that all Gerson patients experience an increase in sodium because their bodies are trying to flush the sodium out. He increased his amount of potassium and decreased his amount of iodine. The other indicator that was over range was due to the amount of apples in his juices. He decreased all the apples and from now until his next labs, my dad will only be drinking carrot juices. Other than that, renal function is great and all other indicators exhibit within normal ranges. WOO HOO!
